BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost utilizes the CAN data bus to communicate with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from putting in keys or replacing the ECU to bypass your security system as it requires a valid PIN code to start the engine.

The Ghost is unlike other immobilisers in that it doesn't rely on key-fobs or LED indicators. Instead, it uses the buttons on your vehicle to allow you to enter a specific disarm sequence that only you are aware of.

Stop & Start

If you've been in a BMW or used its stop-start feature, you might have noticed that the engine continues to run for about 30 seconds after you release the brake pedal. The BMW engine management system continues to check the vehicle for signals emanating from the ignition key. When it detects this, the vehicle will continue to operate. Our BMW ghost immobiliser is a unique next-generation device that doesn't require cutting OEM wires or adding aftermarket alarm and key fobs. It is connected to the BMW CAN data network, and is programmed with an unique PIN code that can be accessible through buttons on your car. This allows you to enter key sequences that aren't accessible through the standard media menus. For instance, volume up/down or source controls, air conditioning, cruise control, etc. The PIN can be between 4 and 20 characters, making it very difficult for thieves to figure out.

Service / Valet Mode

The Ghost is the leading immobiliser available. It protects your vehicle from being taken by hacking or key cloning. It works by utilising the factory buttons of your vehicle to create a unique sequence of pushes which only you can recognize, similar to as the pin code security of your mobile phone. It's subtle, extremely effective and can deter even the most obstinate thieves!

When parked at your home or in a meet and greet when you are at a meet and greet, the Ghost can be set to service mode. This lets you start the car using your keys, but it stops the engine from restarting until the correct code has been entered. This is perfect for customers who have to hand over their cars to valet services, or trusted family members or friends. This allows you to bring your vehicle to the garage for servicing or repairs, etc. without worrying that it will be altered by a mechanic while you wait.

Once the service / valet mode is enabled, it will block your BMW from being driven after it has been started. This prevents anyone from attempting to test drive while you are away. Once you return it will return to normal driving, stopping your car from being damaged or stolen again.

Anti-Hijack

Ghost created this subtle, unobtrusive device to combat the increasing sophistication of hi-tech thieves. It is designed to prevent thieves from adding a new key or replacing the ECU in order to start your vehicle and drive away. Ghost links up to your CAN data network and uses the buttons in your vehicle (steering wheel, centre console and door panels) to create an individual push sequence that needs to be entered before the engine can start.

This will activate the anti-hijack feature and, once activated, any attempt to start the engine will be blocked. When the system determines that the vehicle has stopped moving it will honk the horn and flash the indicators, in case it is not able to locate the correct code, it will also stop the engine (where possible). The Anti-Hijack feature is cancelled by entering your push sequence or by entering service mode which allows your car to temporarily start and drive without having to enter your PIN.

If you own a GPS device that is connected to your BMW it is possible to use it to disable the Anti-Hijack function so that you can continue to use your navigation system while the vehicle is stationary. You can also use your smartphone to control the anti theft feature, as well as other functions.

We can connect your Ghost device to your mobile app for remote control of keyless start and go functionality. This is helpful if you have to go somewhere else and valet or mechanic needs to start your car. The system allows you to turn the vehicle on and off, then select drive and exit service mode without needing keys. You can also track your vehicle on an interactive map on your smartphone.

Ghost can also stop "Relay-style Frequency Amplification". This is the most frequent method of stealing a vehicle using a keyfob that's copied, or stolen by hacking. Ghost allows you to stop this by installing a security device to prevent theft in your vehicle that is called Secure-A Key. The device is inserted into the key fob of your car and disconnects its battery after a couple of inactive minutes. This is possible using the most modern PKE keys.
